I grew up surrounded by cemeteries and historical burial grounds in North Central Massachusetts; my home town alone hosts seven of them. Most of the time, I didn't think too much about cemeteries when I was a little kid, that is, unless my family was driving past one at night. My imagination then took liberties and would thoroughly creep me out, especially in the month of October.
During my adolescences, I tagged along with my mom her parents on errands during the summer months. While out and about, we often stopped at the cemetery so my grandparents could visit their parents and siblings who had passed decades before I was born. They would say their prayers for my ancestors and my mom would sometimes tidy up the plots when needed.
When my maternal grandparents passed away during my teens and early twenties, I had a front-row seat on how my mom continued the tradition of visiting the cemetery and caring for their burial plot. The flower box was filled and placed every spring with fresh flowers, watering commenced in summertime, mementos were removed in the fall, and a wreath was hung upon the headstone in time for Christmas. Maintaining her parent's plot served as an outlet for my mother's undying love for her parents.
Fast-forward to my early thirties and my husband was working for a local DPW, maintaining one of the town's cemeteries as part of his duties. Since he was only in charge of caring for the general cemetery grounds, he came up with the idea of creating a business tending to individual graves for clients. I loved his idea and thought it would be a great fit for our young family.
Life happened and two years pass before I create E.S. Gravesite Care & Maintenance LLC in Autumn 2023 in Massachusetts. As I began to build my clientele, clean several headstones, and worked on advertising, my husband and I were presented with the opportunity to move to North Carolina to be closer to family. We chose the adventure of the move, with Moore County becoming our new home in late summer 2024.
In January 2025 I decided to pick up where I left off and I started E.S. Gravesite Care. I am excited to offer my gravesite care services to a new clients and I hope to make the community a little brighter, one headstone and burial plot at a time.
